Labor of Love
Thank you so much for visiting my home page! I am the team captain of the Big Bad WOOOFS!, a team comprised of the staff and volunteers who work at the SPCA of Texas at our Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney. I am also the proud pet parent of two SPCA of Texas adoptees, my dog, Ginger, and my cat, Fluffy.
Fluffy was owned for several years before his owner could no longer take care of him. Because she wanted to know he would still have a good home, she surrendered him to the SPCA of Texas. I remember the first time I walked into the cat holding room and his beautiful green eyes met mine. I immediately went to snuggle with him and realized that he was a cat that gives kitty hugs when you pick him up. I love kitty hugs! After reading over the PetFacts filled out by his surrendering owner, I found that he was also compatible with dogs. I knew he was the perfect little guy to be the big brother my somewhat anxious dog needed.
Now that anxious dog is my Ginger, and she had many issues when I adopted her. After receiving a notification of potential animal abuse, our Animal Cruelty Investigations department seized her, along with many others, from terrible neglect. Living in their own filth, the dogs not only had untreated medical issues but behaviorally, they had trouble interacting with the staff. The first time I looked in Ginger's eyes, I remember the stitches by her eye where our veterinarian had surgically removed a large fungal growth from her face. She also gave the staff plenty of trouble in constantly removing every cone that was meant to keep her from scratching that particular wound, but with their loving determination, Ginger's medical wounds were healed.
Now not only are Ginger's medical wounds healed, but after 6 years living in her loving forever home, she acts like she has no memory of that awful place from where we seized her. Every day, it's such a joy to come home from work greeted by more than just a wagging tail; she wags so hard her whole booty shakes! She loves going to the park or just curling under my arm while I read. She is loving life now that she was rescued by the SPCA of Texas!
Please consider making a donation to my Strut Your Mutt team this year, so that we can continue to save and rehome thousands more animals each year!
